Terms and Conditions

The Future of Privacy Forum Portal: Terms and Conditions

Thank you for being part of the Future of Privacy Forum community. To ensure the best possible experience, we have established some basic guidelines for participation in the Future of Privacy Forum Portal (“the Portal”).

By joining and using the Portal powered by Higher Logic, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and notices. This Portal is provided by FPF to provide resources available only to stakeholders, help you solicit the advice of your peers and benefit from their experiences, and participate in ongoing conversations. Please review the Rules below to ensure your use of the Portal is appropriate.

In order to preserve both civil and fruitful dialogue, the Future of Privacy Forum reserves the right to moderate content or suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violates these rules at its sole discretion.

The Future of Privacy Forum hopes that community members will find value in the content and communications shared here and will share information with colleagues.  As with all of FPF non-public communications, we request your consideration of the context in which a communication from another member was shared before you reshare a message posted by another member of the community. With a broad audience of stakeholders, the Future of Privacy Forum cannot promise confidentiality on this platform, but we do ask for your serious commitment to ensuring this can be a space for learning and connection.

Questions should be directed to the Future of Privacy Forum Membership Support Team at membership@fpf.org

THE RULES

By joining and using the Portal, you agree that you have read and will follow The Future of Privacy Forum's Anti-Harassment Policy. If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome because of harassing, inappropriate behavior, or you witness someone being harassed, please report it as soon as possible to harassment@fpf.org.

Respect others. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to other users; there’s no such thing as a stupid question.

Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals. Do not post commercial or marketing-related messages.  Do not scrape the directory for contacts or use it for marketing purposes. If you’ve found a product or service helpful, please share your experience with the group in an appropriate way. Similarly, post your message or documents only to the most appropriate communities. This helps ensure all messages receive the best response by eliminating "noise."

Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.

Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.

When posting items in the Portal’s collaborative environment, please indicate if the content is not available for reuse. If you would like to reuse any content, please contact the owner to obtain permission.

Observe the Chatham House Rule. To encourage openness of discussion and to facilitate the sharing of information, all discussions are assumed to take place under the Chatham House Rule. You are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the author should be shared with others. It is unacceptable to disclose details (e.g., screenshots, discussion digest emails, etc.) to other parties, share them publicly, or publish them on any other platform.

Respect usage limits. The Future of Privacy Forum prohibits the use of login sharing, sharing of user credentials, shared logins, or passwords. You may only use the Portal if you are over 18 years of age. If a colleague of your team needs access to the Portal, please contact membership@fpf.org

DISCUSSION GROUP ETIQUETTE

State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows users to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for users to search the archives by subject.

Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the entire group. Do this by using the "Reply to Sender" link in every message.

Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, use the web interface to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply email membership@fpf.org to update your email address.

PORTAL DIRECTORY AND COMMUNITY ROSTERS

The Portal features a directory and community rosters of all active users. By agreeing to these Terms & Conditions, your name, title, and affiliation will be populated in the Portal directory and community rosters by default. This information will be visible to all Portal users unless you opt-out by updating your privacy settings which can be accessed via your profile page, clicking on the “My Account” dropdown, and selecting “Privacy Settings”.  The default settings do not allow other Portal users to contact you nor to request to connect to you unless you affirmatively choose to change the default. We have tried to set the defaults in a manner that best respects the nature of the relationships within our community, but we encourage you to adjust the preferences to your satisfaction. Contact membership@fpf.org for personal assistance if you wish.
